Litigation | Dispute Resolution | General Counsel
Shayna Freyman has dedicated most of her legal career to practicing commercial litigation, with a niche in health benefits litigation, including disputes arising under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). But her experience providing legal counsel is deep and diverse and reaches far beyond that scope.
Before founding Freyman Law, Shayna practiced for over a decade at a large, Florida-based law firm where she represented a wide range of corporate and institutional clients in state and federal courts and on appeal, from financial institutions and health insurance companies to real estate developers, construction and technology companies.
In her health benefits practice, Shayna spent many years representing health plans and insurers and has handled a broad range of managed care litigation, including in both ERISA and non-ERISA group employee benefits disputes and cases involving individual policies of insurance. Shayna has led the defense in hundreds of lawsuits brought by medical providers in Florida courts. She also represented healthcare entities in contractual disputes and participating and non-participating provider cases in state and federal courts and in arbitration.
Following her long tenure at a “BigLaw” firm, Shayna worked as a Partner at a boutique firm with offices in Chicago, New York and Miami. There, she brought her years of commercial litigation and health benefits expertise to the litigation practice group, where she represented clients in a broad range of industries, including large corporations, fashion designers, artists, emerging start-ups, and tech companies.
In this role, Shayna provided strategic counsel on a wide variety of subjects ranging from breach of contract disputes and restrictive covenants in employment and stock purchase agreements to international intellectual property disputes. She appeared before and represented clients in federal courts in New York, Illinois, and California.
Good Judgment. Shayna also serves clients as a trusted advisor to help facilitate and manage multi-faceted matters and works seamlessly with clients’ broader legal and professional teams.
Strong Connections. Shayna leverages her broad network to quarterback and staff the needs of her clients’ cases to the extent additional professional services and resources are recommended.
Shayna is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator. When she’s not heartily advocating for her clients' interests, she also acts as a neutral and conducts settlement conferences and mediations.
In mediation, Shayna listens actively and carefully, and helps each side understand the other’s goals to enable resolution. Her extensive experience litigating and resolving disputes as an advocate gives her a unique perspective and balanced disposition.
Shayna helps parties understand the realities of unpredictable and high-cost litigation. She counsels clients on these considerations and provides neutral settlement analysis and early case or pre-suit assessments to give clients peace of mind as they navigate their disputes and weigh their options.
Shayna was born and raised in South Florida, where she is strongly committed to her community and has served many charitable organizations and leadership programs. In her free time, you’ll likely find Shayna cooking for and entertaining friends and family and spending time with her husband and two children, the lights of her life.
